Alex and Hal are joined by the Oakland 68s, a supporter group that organizes itself around the A’s, Roots, Soul and Ballers sports teams in The Town. Oakland 68s president Jorge Leon, VP Anson Casanares and treasurer Todd Saran preview Thursday’s Opening Day boycott in the Coliseum parking lot, how the A’s won’t open parking until 5 p.m., what to expect during the 2024 season, the latest Sacramento rumors, the Oakland Ballers’ first season and more.
Please plan another reverse boycott game, maybe right before the All-Star break. Let’s put the spotlight on the dastardly duo, Fisher and Kaval (Manfred makes it a trio), and give the national media something to talk about during that break.
If you didn’t know it you would think Oakland was the worst place to have a pro sports team. The fact is it’s been one of the best. Whats happening in Oakland is just that the sports world has been invaded by owners who can only see profit and power.
You want to side with the owners understand that its’ not just about Oakland or other cities with mediocre sports teams and old stadiums its’ about the economy, real sports fans and the nerve of these billionaire team owners who think . For some reason the corporate and private communities want to see Oakland lose most of its’ businesses, economic power and its’ sports teams.
Oh, you think its just because of city issues(money, debt and an old stadium that justifies teams running from Oakland?
Fans are so naive these days, just to have a pro team move to their cities they will pay outrageous season ticket prices and allow these new owners to take away parking or over charge for it. Sometimes theres not a reason to get a new stadium- it’s ego and a chance to make a few millions more. An owner will want a new stadium a few miles or in a suburban area not far from the old site. Some owners want new designs or more features and media/ the leagues hype their actions. When critics question thir actions media/ owners claim/ hype that new stadiums ‘pay for star free agents and adds to fans fun experience’. Fans buy it they feel its part of the experience- a new stadium is a fad and something to brag about. And I admit…yes!, its’ some very cool fan fun events inside around those new stadiums theres all kinds of things to do there these days; but also, its very expensive, limits things like parking and outside(parking lot) events, takes the focus off sports and sucks up public money.
Fans are getting royal treatment but, they also are being charged outrageus prices. This thing about having something to do before/ after a game has become a joke. Fans will get scamed out of millions when these leagues come up with ‘fake news’ giving owners reason to either build new stadiums in their old cities not far from the old ones or move to other cities or states to get a new stadium. They’ll make big claims about building a winner and charge outrageous prices for tickets, food/ drink and merchandise. But cities/ fan bases get ‘screwed’ when teams move, new fans are naive and are over charged for merchandise, tickets, parking and food; tax payers are screwed and cities have traffick issues on game days because some teams build in ridiculous places for a stadium. But this is what fans deal with and as much as they want to criticize/ attack Oakland/ coliseum they aren’t the only fans who are in a sad situation some of the fans with a team have to deal with owners/ cities who put money and ego ahead of them.
