A’s release new verbal renderings for Las Vegas ballpark
UPDATE: The A’s must be fans of the pod because they deleted the first four paragraphs of the screenshot below.
ORIGINAL STORY: The world is still waiting to see the A’s drop some actual renderings for their proposed ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip, nine months after they shared some dishonest, hastily-created images that had no basis in reality.
It appears that the team recently (and quietly) updated its Las Vegas ballpark page on MLB.com, describing the stadium with some detail. H/T to A’s fan Matt Ortega for sharing the info with ABC7’s Casey Pratt, who joined the latest episode of The Rickey Henderson of Podcasts.
Here’s a full look at the updates, via MLB.com.
With their proposed design, the A’s claim ‘the outfield boasts the world’s largest cable-net glass window’ and will have ‘an 18,000-square-foot jumbotron, making it the largest video board in MLB.’
“Verbal renderings!” co-host Dr. Hal Gordon said of the new information. “I know baseball fans … the thing they’re always clamoring for is the world’s largest cable-net glass … wall?”
What’s missing? Well, visual renderings, for one.
There’s no clear mention of the retractable roof, which isn’t expected to be part of the final design, according to recent reports. Do you really expect John Fisher to pay for a retractable roof when he can pay for a cheaper, fixed one?
It’s also worth noting that Bjarke Ingels Group – the same architectural firm picked to design Howard Terminal – was hired on Dec. 4 to lead the Vegas ballpark project, though that was more than six months after May 26 fake renderings that were presented to Nevada lawmakers and the public.
Again, nothing the A’s share can be taken seriously at this point. But according to Howard Stutz of The Nevada Independent (via John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle), the A’s could release the renderings on March 8-9, so stay tuned.
While the A’s initially proposed to share the renderings and funding plan (yep, that’s still missing too) in December, Fisher has yet to present any real information, nor has the franchise announced a home stadium beyond the 2024 season.
A whole lotta nothin’ with a whole lot of support from MLB. At least we have verbal renderings.

Why are the A’s so interested in moving from Oakland? is the crime, the stadium, attendance, revenue issues? No, its’ pressure by wall street/ powerful people who don’t want any pro sports in Oakland as well as owners who want wealthier fan money and more local corporate money form other cities.
They once had an argument for wanting to move, Alameda County treated them unfairly for years and when the Raiders moved back they kinda ignored them. But now the A’s look like disloyal, greedy and disgraceful business people. After the Raiders left Oakland they had the Coliseum to themselves. The city wanted to work with them and yes, they refused to give the A’s public money but the A’s had other opportunities like a chance to build affordable housing on the Complex. But they rejected that for a chance to go after different revenue schemes. They don’t care where they move, L.V. isn’t important. It could be for revenue and investment or selling the team but it’s not to help the team win. It’s not that Oakland didn’t offer them a lot- maybe not public money but something and even other plans- like a stadium in another area. I think maybe the A’s don’t want to play in the big cities, and MLB a real friend to Oakland, is supporting them. Now, they want to move to L.V. and stress out the Raiders and the MLB wants to share that revenue and ‘screw’ the fans in California. The powers behind the A’s want to take all of Oakland’s teams but fans in other cities should know their teams could one day ‘screw’ them too. Its’ funny, these league talk loyalty and integrity but they will move the minute they see a money schme for revenue and the stadium in L.V. is very small and MLB should tell the A’s they have a ridiculous plan.

This “move to Vegas is becoming a big joke” C’mon move the team to Portland. As a Mariners fan we would love to kick their ass on a regular basis!

Well, its a huge fall from being the good guy team stuck between two other pro teams and being mistreated by the city about a new stadium. Now after getting almost everything a team could ask for at one site and the chance to build a great stadium at another the A’s reject both just so they can go bother Mark Davis and the Raiders and cram into a ridiculous spot to play baseball.
MLB is making itself look corrupt just by pretending to go along with this none sense. Why do pro leagues want to avoid Oakland? its’ had champions in three different pro sports! it has great weather and a large fan base in the Bay Area. I think it was powerful people who ruined the Raiders’ deal and are now trying to help the A’s leave Oakland!
